Olympus has announced its new high-end OM-D E-M1 interchangeable lens camera, packing a 16.3-megapixel Live MOS sensor and a new TruePic VII image processor in a dustproof and splashproof package.
The flagship of the company’s Micro Four Thirds range, the camera comes with a dual fast AF system that combines both Contrast AF and On-Chip Phase Detection AF.
The OM-D’s new electronic viewfinder (EVF) features a 1.48x (35mm equivalent of .74x) magnification factor that ‘rivals full-frame DSLR cameras’, packing an impressive 2.36 million-dot LCDs and puts the image ‘on a par with optical viewfinders.’
The new Olympus comes with no Low-Pass Filter, the same 5-axis image stabilisation as seen in the previous OM-D, as well as ‘new dials, built-in grip and direct buttons’ and a burst rate up to 10fps.
Also on board is a mic jack, HDMI-Out, built-in Wi-Fi with Geotagging, 1080p HD video with time lapse and it’s the first OM camera with an X-Sync socket.
There’s a mechanical shutter release, exposure times running from 60-1/8000 sec plus Bulb and the rather impressive “Life Time” mode.
Olympus also announced two high-end zoom lenses with a fast aperture; the ZUIKO Digital ED 12–40mm f2.8 PRO lens (24–80mm, 35mm equivalent) priced at $999 and the ZUIKO Digital ED 40–150mm f2.8 PRO (80–300mm, 35mm equivalent) .
